Olafur Eliasson: OPEN
MADWORKSHOP provided presenting support for the current exhibition Olafur Eliasson: OPEN, on display at MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo.
OPEN features over a dozen pieces commissioned for MOCA and related works, all of which explore light, illusion, and perception. Many of the pieces are interactive, taking the viewer into the scene via mirror reflection, backlighting/shadow creation, and projection. Visitors become part of the art by their mere presence, further enhanced by their own movement.
In a letter to MOCA trustees, MOCA Director Johanna Burton thanked “Trustee Mary Martin, and her husband David Martin, for their visionary belief in and transformational support of the show.”
A part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide, a regional event exploring the intersections of art and science, OPEN is on display through July 6, 2025.
About the artist:
Born in 1967, Eliasson grew up in Iceland and Denmark. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1995, moved to Berlin and founded Studio Olafur Eliasson. The studio is comprised of a large team of craftspeople, architects, archivists, researchers, administrators, cooks, programmers, art historians, and specialized technicians. Eliasson’s works explore the relevance of art in the world at large.
